In addition to the benefits of joining the OTT Community, you’re also playing your part to help improve thoroughbred horse visibility in Victoria.
Racing Victoria’s (RV) wide range of equine welfare programs are designed to enhance the long-term outcomes for thoroughbred racehorses before, during and after racing. Integral to that is RV’s Off The Track (OTT) program, which was launched in 2012 with the aim of facilitating the placement of retired thoroughbred racehorses into a variety of second careers.
The OTT program drives demand for the thoroughbred through an extensive event sponsorship network, which includes partnerships with Equestrian Victoria, Pony Club Association of Victoria and the Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria. In addition, OTT supports more than 250 events across Victoria annually to ensure suitable incentives exist for re-educating and riding off-the-track horses. Over the past 12 months, OTT-sponsored events across the state have received more than 4,800 entries from retired racehorses.
Central to the ongoing delivery of the OTT program is the Off The Track Community (OTTC), which is assisting in RV’s efforts to improve the visibility of retired racehorses and to audit the movement of thoroughbreds post-racing.
OTT Community members gain opportunities to participate in training and development support, including subsidised access to a wide range of clinics which are specifically designed for the benefit of retired racehorses and their owners.
Since the OTTC was launched in May 2021, over 10,000 users have registered on the platform, in the process claiming over 6,000 retired racehorses.
